Obituary of Douglas Henry Hilton

It is with great sadness and much love that we mourn the peaceful passing of Douglas Henry Hilton, at the age of 92, surrounded by loved ones.
Born and raised in Nightingale, Doug was schooled in Berta Vale, Strathmore, Kathyrn and Olds College.  Douglas and Norma established their farm in the Indus area and expanded to the Cheadle area.
Doug leaves behind his loving wife of 68 years, Norma (nee Warrack).  He and his “thumbs up” will be greatly missed by his devoted children Gayle, Janice (John), Arlene (Henrik), Karen (Kelly) and Bruce (Bronwyn).
Grandpa had quite the sense of humor and loved having his missing ring finger discovered by his grandchildren (Darren, Katherine, Jennifer, Scott, Craig, Katrine, Alexander, Kirsten, Jamie, Shawn, Nathalie and Livianna) as well as his great-grandchildren (Shyanna, Caidence, Zoey, Xander, Alyza, Lucas, Lily and Kinzie).  Grandpa was a big kid at heart and consistently egged the little ones on until they got into hot water. Doug treasured his twin brother and recently commented “it was great to live your whole life as a twin”.
Doug’s passions included – Family, Farming and Flying.
Farmer Doug fulfilled his Olds Agricultural College yearbook dream of “being a big grain farmer some day”.  As well-rounded farmers, they diversified into feedlot cattle, a cow calf operation, and kept their kids busy with field work, milk cows, pigs, chickens, turkeys, and 4H calves.  As a talented “man of all trades”, Doug would climb telephone poles, fix literally anything mechanical or electrical, be a handyman for local organizations as well as neighbours and successfully run various businesses.  As a volunteer, he was active with numerous organizations in Langdon, Indus, Cheadle and Strathmore.  As a pilot, his passion for flying took him to the skies in his Cessna, Piper Dakota, or fabric J3.  He was thrilled to have flown his plane as far north as Tuktoyaktuk. His farm runway was always kept ready and waiting for an opportunity to “take off”.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 13, 2022, at Strathmore United Church (410 – 4 St) at 11:00 a.m.  A graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m. at Mountain View Memorial Gardens (1605 100 St SE Calgary).
Masks and hand sanitizer will be provided and would be appreciated by the family.
If so desired, donations may be made directly to the Wheatland Hospice Society (PO Box 2154 Strathmore AB T1P 1K2; or a charity of your choice.
